What I am thankful for 11/22/2016

I am thankful for the amazing people I have in my life. From my family, to my best friends, to my peers, even to people that say excuse me in the hallway. My friends and family are the most amazing part of my life. I look forward to seeing them everyday. Sometimes we don’t get along but that’s just life. I love them with all my heart and I can’t thank them enough for being by my side even though I am a really big embarrassment.Without them my life would be completely different. I’m happy with the way my life is as of right now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am thankful for all my teachers. They give me the opportunity to grow and learn. They are there when I need them.  I am just thankful for everything in my life, My struggles, my hard times, music, food, books, coloring, laughter, and animals. Without all these things in my life, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

The Maycomb Tribune

Racism in the south is getting horrendous. Lynch mobs, racist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, and just the plain hatred for blacks is getting dangerous. They are putting people, even children, in danger.

The Sunday before local resident Tom Robinson’s trial, a drunken lynch mom was out to get him. That night, three young local children, Jeremy Finch, Jean Louise Finch, and Charles Baker Harris, got in the middle of it. Let it be known that the area was pitch black and these men were extremely dangerous. These kids could have gotten seriously hurt, or worse, killed. Now think if these children were your own. You would want to put an end to this right away, right?

Attacking innocent black people for being black is so wrong. We brought them here, tortured them, separated them from their families, killed them, beat them, and they are the bad guys? I do not understand the logic behind this. Why must it be like this? Is it because we are not used to minorities? Whatever the reason might be, it is not logical to hate somebody because their appearance.

What is different about us? We are all one. Why must the color of our skin define who we are? The hatred for blacks is unnecessary. Mark 17:31, Love thy neighbor as yourself. God does not see color, he sees character. Why must you not do the same?

Maybe I am just not looking close enough, maybe I am not southern enough to feel the hatred. I don’t know. I just don’t. Maybe I am not seeing something here. Are they in the wrong for being black? What if it were whites being oppressed? Maybe think about that.

Possible Re-opening of Emmett Till Case Article 11/5/16

Keith Beauchamp became obsessed with the murder of Emmett Till more than 20 years ago. He became so interested that he wanted to spread the word about his unjust murder. He went to colleges and presented his documentary “The Untold Story of Emmett Till”  and urged the police to reopen the case. Stanley Nelson was also interested in the case and made his own documentary. His documentary, “The Murder Of Emmett Till” won him a couple of awards. When he showed his documentary, he insisted that the watchers mail letters to the attorney general of Mississippi so the case could be reopened.

Emmett Till was badly beaten and shot in Money, Mississippi for whistling at a white woman. After Emmett’s dead body got sent back to Chicago, his mother, Mami Mobley, made a grave decision to let everybody see her son’s brutally beaten body. She made that decision to show everybody his body because she wanted to make a statement. After she did so, more black rights movements started.

Stanley Nelson’s film, “The Murder Of Emmett Till”, won an Emmy award. Nelson was extremely proud of his work of his documentary. He said it was a great feeling to be a part of this experience. Nelson said “The film was hard to make, it was emotional to make, it was also an honor to make”.
